Carroll County surrounds the north-south midpoint of the state's eastern border. Established
in 1840, the county was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Virginia, a signer of the
Declaration of Independence. It adjoins Maine along a 53-mile, almost perfectly
straight, line. It is the second least populated county, falling after Coös County.See More Information on Carroll County.
